odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com reports that the Federal Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, has confirmed that a nurse who was one of the caregivers that treated the Liberian diplomat, Mr. Patrick Sawyer, has died from the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
Briefing
reporters Wednesday in Abuja, the minister added that Nigeria has recorded
seven confirmed cases of Ebola.
With the nurse’s death, she is the first Nigerian to have died from the virus.
Eight people had primary contact with Sawyer who flew into Nigeria from Liberia with the virus two weeks ago.
Mr. Sawyer died in
a Lagos private hospital hours after he flew in from Liberia with the virus two
weeks ago.
The nurse became the first Nigerian death
since the first case of the virus was confirmed in the densely populated West
African country, after she had contact with the late Liberian man, Patrick
Sawyer, who died in Lagos last month.The disease endemic to West Africa has claimed almost 900 lives since the recent outbreak.
