Former Governor Peter Obi , Others To Witness Inauguration Of Ultra Modern Refurbished Auditorium Named After Prof Stella Okunna By Prof Joseph Ahaneku , Vice Chancellor, Unizik Thursday 21st August

Former Governor Peter Obi will be among the guests to witness the inauguration of an ultra modern refurbished University Auditorium for the Mass Communication students named after Prof Stella Chinyere Okunna, immediate past Commissioner for Economic Planning and Chief of Staff to former Governor Peter Obi, reports odogwuemekaodogwu.com

Vice Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka , Prof Joseph Ahaneku  will perform the function tomorrow Thursday 21^st day of August, 2014 by 11 am at the Mass Communication Complex. 

The elated Head of Department of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Dr Ifeoma Dunu announced this short while ago while addressing newsmen on the planned inauguration by Prof Ahaneku.

She said the Auditorium named after the foremost Professor of Mass Communication , Okunna is to create a conducive reading atmosphere for the students.

‘’….we embarked on the auditorium , so that it would look like an ultra modern Auditorium for conducive reading culture. Before now we had ordinary chairs in the Auditorium but when Prof Okunna came back from her sojourn as Commissioner in the former Governor Peter Obi’s government I approached her as the HOD to propose the need for that Auditorium to look differently and she gladly bought the idea. She donated one million naira (N1,000,000) to the department for in support of the fund released by the University to make it a reality.

‘’ The Auditorium is now conducive because learning is not only about books but with conducive environment  for the use of the students.

Dr Dunu informed odogwuemekaodogwu.com that before she assumed office the department which was located off her parent faculty of Social Sciences had no car park but she created an interlocked environment to give the compound a face lift and created a car park. She as well created a mini library for the department for the students to be engaged when they are less busy.

The charming Unizik Mass Communication Head of Department reminded odogwuemekaodogwu.com that now students know their grade every semester before going on vacation as each student is given his or her performance rating for his or her guidance or parents to see how they have fared and the money he or she spent the implications. It is a policy here that students go home with their results for them to know their academic standing and their guidance too.

‘’In this department we are we are known for excellence, discipline and hard work and we have always prided ourselves with that.

Dunu equally said the department produces Magazine and Newspaper and is doing well in the Broadcast aspect of its arm too hence it won award as best campus radio station. The feat recorded by Mass Communication department HOD is glaring for all to see but she may give an insight into it tomorrow at the function proper. She is indeed a digital HOD in a University of the moment.
