Breaking News: Anambra First Lady , Chief Mrs Obiano Empowers Over 9,000 Poor Rural Women, Physically Challenged and Orphans And Vulnerable Children
Odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com reports that Anambra
State First Lady, Chief (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano will empower over 9,000 women,
physically challenged and as well as Orphans and Vulnerable Children in this
month of August, 2014.
Odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com breaks down the number
this way ---5,210 indigent women would be assisted to set up small scale
businesses and a total of 2,655 vulnerable children will benefit from a welfare
scheme while 1,416 physically challenged persons are to also receive succour.
Announcing these measures on today at the Women
Development Centre, Awka, on the occasion of the 2014 Mothers Summit flag off,
Anambra State First Lady, Chief (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano, said the
interventions were components of her pet project; Caring Family Enhancement
Initiative (CAFE), with equal number of beneficiaries drawn from each of the
177 communities in the state.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s mothers’ summit,
‘Women and Progress in Anambra – A Priority Agenda’, Mrs Obiano observed that
in the face of the roles women play in all walks of life, it was a matter of
concern that their ‘healthcare and other needs are not readily available and
affordable.’ She said that for this reason, CAFE had already embarked on the
provision of life saving kits to expectant mothers as well as the distribution
of cancer testing kits to women for the early detection of breast cancer.
The First Lady promised that the intervention would
widen in scope and number of beneficiaries in the years ahead. ‘My next 100
days will witness the presence of CAFÉ in every community. I will reactivate
the old people’s homes through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social
Development.’
In his remarks at the occasion, Governor Willie Obiano
assured of continued fair representation of the womenfolk in his government and
doors of opportunity to excel in various callings.
‘This was
indeed the reason I made sure that the Special Lecture that we organized to
commemorate my first 100 days in office was delivered by a woman – our
brilliant daughter Chimamanda Adichie.’
Chief Obiano noted that women had a significant role
to play in his administration’s quest to transform Anambra State. He emphasized
that development cannot be realized without rebuilding the fabrics of society,
hence the critical contributions expected from mothers. ‘You are the pivot of
the family and the true agents of civilization. No child ever forgets the
values its mother handed down to it. Our mothers must plant the right values in
children.’
The Governor extended the hand of partnership to Ndi
Anambra as a whole, expressing the conviction that everyone has something to
offer. ‘There is a role for everybody and a place for great ideas and
initiatives in Anambra State under my watch.’
