The purpose of this circular is to provide members and the general public with the Notice of AGM and information in relation to the resolutions proposed at the ASA-World AGM on July 9, 2014 at Women Development Centre, Awka, Anambra State of Nigeria.

The Chairman’s Opening Remarks:

Addressing the attending members and the general public in attendance, the Chairman Chief Dr Anakwenze explained to the Stakeholders that despite a promising start, 2014 was a year of challenges and fragile political transition in Anambra State.

The year 2014 started on a promising note amidst hopes that Anambra State of Nigeria is on a cause to sustainable development and that he hoped this would be a turning point in our think home philosophy of the diaspora Anambrarians engaging the home government in reaching its promise to the citizenry. Events continue to prove that the Diaspora Anambrarians need to remain on the trail of those at home who took the oath to uphold public trust in terms of good governance and accountability. Anambra State continues to be plagued by persistent high levels of unemployment and insufficient program for the youth. The entire South-South, South-East is under immense stress.

These economic upheavals could have dire consequences for most South-South, South-East economies if the Anambra Diasporas were to fold its hand and stay uninvolved.

The Chairman then emphasized that Anambra Diasporas need to be involved as the 5th government, directly by engaging the government to do right by its people and or indirectly, as a watchdog that points out areas of improvement that will bring economic growth and investor confidence to Anambra State of Nigeria

RESOLUTIONS:

Constitution Amendment:

“THAT,

o   The major change in the constitution was the initiation of the board of trustees. The idea is to retain talent within the association.

o   The amended constitution was unanimously passed by presidents of member countries.

Adoption of ASAWORLD mantra:

“THAT,

o   Effective immediately, all ASA-World business(s) must be conducted under one umbrella with defined clarity of purpose. 

o   Two options were considered; “Under the umbrella of ASAWORLD” and under “Affiliate of ASWORLD”.

o   “Under the umbrella of ASAWORLD” was unanimously adopted as the mantra by presidents of member countries.

o   Affiliate and member wishing to “moonlight” alone during  ASA-World annual summit and or  joint project must not do so without the blessing and without the support of ASA-World membership

o   All registered members must adopt this mantra in all their communication and publications effective July 9, 2014.

Anambra Diaspora Development Agency (ADDA):

“THAT,

ADDA was unanimously adopted by all presidents of member countries as a working document for ASAWORLD.

Other discussions at the AGM included:

“THAT,

o   ASAWORLD registration

o   ASAWORLD was registered in Nigeria.

o   The lawyer that registered the association seized the documents.

o   A new lawyer has been hired to obtain a copy of the certificate of registration at Abuja for a cost of $25,000.

o   Bank A/C:

o   That members voted unanimously to open a UBA Bank Account

o   That the signatories to the bank account will be the Chairman and the Vice Chairman for now

o   The process of opening the bank account at Awka is in progress.

o   Certificate of incorporation is awaited to conclude the account opening process.

o   INEC Registration:

o   It was suggested that ASAWORLD register with INEC so that ASAWORLD can operate independently during election monitoring.

o   Effort will be made to get the INEC registration but history shows it is challenging to get INEC to approve.

A motion for Adjournment was moved at 10:10am by Tony Ikeotuonye and seconded by Chief Onyeka Chukwu Onyeka.

"RESOLVED FURTHER THAT (Name of the Authorized signatories below are hereby

Severally/jointly authorized to take necessary steps and action as they may think expedient.” On behalf of the organization as approved by the 2014 ASA-World resolutions at its AGM in Awka, Anambra State of Nigeria.

All relevant documents in connection with the AGM meeting will be available to the general public from the date of this notice at the Registered Secretariat of ASA-World at the address above, as well as on the Organization’s Website (www.asaworldwide.org).
