Involve Us In Tax Collection : Anambra Monarchs Begs Obiano To Jettison Politicians From Tax Collection

         

odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com reports that Anambra State traditional rulers council today advocated for the involvement of monarchs in the collection of taxes at the rural areas in the state in order for the people to encourage developmental efforts in the country rather than entrusting the revenue collection in the hand of politicians.

odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com informs further that the Chairman, Anambra Central Traditional Rulers’ Council HRH, Igwe Chukwuemeka Ilouno made the call after a meeting of monarchs in the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, today in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Ilouno said that with the ``progressive continuity’’ of APGA-led administration in socio-economic infrastructural provision in Anambra State, the people have a course to pay their taxes now through the traditional rulers.
``I want to tell you that why people had not been paying tax in the past is that when money is brought to government; we don’t see what it is used for, but I can tell you that, with what is happening today, I can assure you that you would see that at the end of the year, the internal generated revenue of Anambra State might be ten times what it used to be because people are today seeing and feeling the impact of the money they pay and when they see it, government will never need to ask anybody to pay tax, people will voluntary do it.
``Again, government needs to modify the way it collects its taxes. In days of yores, it used to be that government go to traditional rulers and say – this is the rate your people are going to pay, collect one naira or this or that and traditional rulers will collect these monies and pay into th government coffers.
“But today, traditional rulers have been pushed aside, politicians have taken over this and we don’t see the money anymore.

``So I want to say that if government goes the way they should go, that people would collect money; people trust their traditional rulers and they will voluntarily give their traditional rulers monies. All they need is to do the assessment and tell the traditional rulers to collect tax and at the end of the month, the money is paid into the coffers and you can have a better collection than what is happening today, because the people have learnt not to trust the ordinary politician,’’ he said.
Ilouno, who is also the traditional ruler of Ifitedunu community in Dunukofia LGA, said that Gov. Willie Obiano’s purposeful governance approach within few months had endeared him to the hearts of residents of Anambra.
He noted that with the high level of Obiano’s performance and the current people’s support to him; ``Anambra will be a big reference point for other states very soon’’
