Ndi Igbo in Diaspora today spoke on the appointment
of Prof Joseph Ahaneku as Vice
Chancellor Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.
Adverts for and against, protests for and against is
going everywhere especially in the media but Prof Ahaneku has since resumed
duties and was busy galvanizing for work.
Mazi Ebelendu,
Your observation is quite in order.
I would equally opine that this VC's appointment is God's way of reminding
ndi-Igbo that they are taking a dangerous turn which if not
seriously addressed would lead in no distant future to the demise of
the Igbo nation in the polity.
Honestly, I often rack my brain
trying to determine what
must have caused ndi-Igbo
not to accommodate themselves the way they did prior to the
civil war. And, in the process, I always come up with impression that of
all the three major ethnic nationalities in the country ndi-Igbo were
the one adversely affected by creation of States. More importantly,
that solidarity and unity of purpose that existed in the
past which made ndi-Igbo withstand the complete
annihilation/extermination of their ethnic nationality from
Nigeria by ndi-Ugwu did crumble immediately after the civil war.
I am sure you will attest to
the fact that it is only in the former Eastern region that mass
expulsion of civil servants takes place as soon as
States are created. I cannot think of where else it would happen
or happened and, if it would, not at the scale it occur either
in the SE or SS geopolitical zone. It is unfortunate that
"ndi-Igbo muta egwu ha agbakaria ndi mugosiri ha"!
Thanks, to the Governor of Abia State who re-accessed his earlier decision
to terminate the appointment of the non-Abia civil servants from other
Igbo States. Ndibanyi, ndi-Igbo n'asi na tata bukwa gboo, therefore, it
is pertinent to copy and emulate his action knowing too well that the
survival of ndi-Igbo and the other minority ethnic nationalities in the former
Eastern region would be entirely dependent on the unity and
cooperation that exist between them. Ndewo.

Well, God must have designed his
appointment to send a message to the people of Mbaise. Recall that the Mbaise
Catholics had to desecrate the alter of God to chase away a Bishop appointed to
their Diocese by Pope because he is a native of Anambra State and not a native
of Mbaise.
The Diocese is currently being
overseen by the Bishop of Abuja who hails from Noth-central Nigeria.
I don't know how they welcomed the
appointment of their son as Vice Chancellor of a university in Anambra
State named after Rt. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe who hails from Anambra State.
Tony Ebelendu
We must congratulate the
new Vice Chancellor of Unizik Awka, Prof. Ahaneku. He hails from Mbaise. This
is very commendable because the University Senate though Anambra in majority,
discharged its responsibility by ignoring clannish politics and abided by the
Federal regulation on choosing Vice Chancellor. This is very noteworthy and I
hope that NdiIgbo commend this gesture. It should be who is the best and not
where you come from. Understandably, a lot of wheeling and dealing went into
the process but at the end, the process worked well. Integrity of the
process must be respected and to whom honor is given, a lot is expected from.
Congratulations VC Ahanekwu.
Kudos to the Unizik
Senate!
