Abia First Lady Mercy Odochi Orji Remembers Destitute In Abia

 Abia State government has reassured physically challenged and other less privileged persons in the state of its continued unveiling of more welfare packages that would enhance their well being.

The wife of the governor, Mrs. Mercy Odochi Orji gave the assurance at the indoor sports hall of the Umuahia central stadium during the distribution of food items to motherless/destitute homes, association of physically challenged persons and inmates of the Nigeria Prisons Service stated that their welfare and priority would continued to attract government special attention and priority.


She stated that the distribution of food items programme which has become a regular feature since the government of Sir T. A. Orji came board was further demonstration of government policy of care, providing comfort and of being responsive to the yeaning and aspirations of all classes of Abians particularly the motherless homes, association of physically challenged persons, Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (NEPHWAN) and Prisoners in Nigeria Prisons in Abia State.

The wife of the governor further stated that the special distribution programme was part of the strategic action plans of Governor T. A. Orji’s show of love and kindness to all and stated that the programme organized by her pet project Hannah May Foundation was aimed at complimenting good governance and delivery of democracy dividends.

Mrs. Orji described alms giving to the less privileged as Biblical and part of evangelism with its attendant rewards added that by giving, we would not only give help and succor to them and reduce criminality in the society.

While calling on Multi-national Corporations, philanthropists and donor agencies to assist the state government and HannahMay Foundation in uplifting the welfare of the downtrodden in the state, challenged the beneficiaries not to be despondent but to learn skills as to be self-reliant and attain their goals in life as well be law abiding.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Nnenna Chikezie said that the event was another special day the compassionate Abia mother in her usual benevolence way of touching the lives of these special people as a way of complimenting the policy thrust of delivery of democracy dividends to the people.
Mrs Chikezie said that Abia children, women, youths and the less privileged would ever remain grateful to Her Excellency for all her magnanimity towards them and pray that the almighty God would continue to bless and protect her.
In a vote of thanks, a proprietor of one of the benefitting homes, the International Project Director, Wanted Children Foundation, Mrs. Courtley Anderson-Okey commended the wife of the governor for her gestures and urged her not to relenting as what she has been doing was not an easy task.
About 28 homes alongside National Association of Disabled person and Network of people living with HIV/AIDS benefitted from the distribution of the items which include hundreds of bags of rice, beans, tubers of yam, rolls of toilet tissues, cartoons of beverages, and detergents among others.
