Odogwuemekaodogwu.com reports that a four-seater plane flying from Nigeria to Gabon via Cameroun has disappeared, according to Cameroun aviation sources on Tuesday.
The plane, owned by the U.S. company Global Aviation, took off from Kano in northern Nigeria at 1800 hours on Monday en route Libreville in Gabon, where it was scheduled to arrive at 2300 hours, after a stopover in Douala, Cameroun.
However, the station said that the plane, with only the American pilot on board, did not make it to Douala.
It said the last contact the plane had with the control tower took place in Mongo, which is two hours flight from the Camerounian economic capital.
Report says that search and rescue operations led by Cameroun's civil aviation authorities have not yielded any positive results.
Odogwuemekaodogwu.com reports further that the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) said on today that the four-seater light aircraft that allegedly got `missing' was not in the country’s airspace.
Mr Ibrahim Abdulsalam, the Managing Director of NAMA, told newsmen in Lagos that the incident was not within the jurisdiction of the agency.
He noted that the aircraft had been handed over to the Cameroun airspace authority before the incident occurred within their airspace.
``It did not occur within the Nigerian airspace, so there is nothing we can do about it.
``We have handed over the aircraft to the Cameroon airspace,'' he explained.
The aircraft was learnt to be owned by a U.S. company, Global Aviation.
It took off from Kano airport at about 6 p.m. on Monday (June 23) en route Libreville in Gabon.
The aircraft was scheduled to arrive at 11 p.m. same day, after a stop-over in Douala, Cameroun.
