revealed that an improvised explosive device (IED) planted at the Peoples
Hotel, a popular brothel in Bayan Garin area of Bauchi metropolis,
went-off Friday night, killing 11 persons and injuring 28 others.
The incident which happened around 9.50pm, threw the residents of the state capital into panic as traders and Okada riders abandoned their businesses and took cover.
Bayan Garin is an area where numerous bars, restaurants and other relaxation joints are mainly found, with a large Christian population.
Confirming the incident, the State Commissioner of Police(COMPOL), Lawal Shehu said that one suspected bomber was arrested in connection with the incident and efforts is being intensified to arrest the other fleeing suspects.
According to him, "From the investigations conducted by the police, some suspected hoodlums were seen loitering the premises of the brothel and the next thing that happened was an explosion" .
The COMPOL added that" the entire surrounding of the area has been cordoned off and the scene secured by Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD). The victims were rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) for treatment and corpses were evacuated to the mortuary".
The Police boss urged members of the public to always be security conscious within their environment by paying attention to persons and objects, particularly at motor parks, market places, schools, places of worship, shopping malls, eateries and hotels.
