Isuofia community in Aguata Local Government
Area of Anambra State is in crisis that may lead to inter-village skirmish if
nothing is done to arrest the situation as a four-bedroom apartment, boys
quarters, shops and fencing wall currently under construction were already
allegedly maliciously demolished in Umueze-Isuofia by people from Isuanioma
autonomous community for which the chairman of Umueze -Isuofia Village Union,
Mr Ikechukwu Emenike has called on Governor Willie Obiano to come to their
rescue.
Narrating the crisis that had already taken tolls in his village, Mr Emenike alleged that a family in his village was attacked and their property destroyed because the family refused to join Isuanioma Autonomous Community in whose existence Emenike said was not recognized by law.
Mr Emenike said: " On May 22 this year I got a distress phone call from a member of my village that youths from Isuanioma village invaded Umueze by 2:00a.m and pulled down buildings belonging to Udensi's family and others because they refused to join their autonomous community. They said that these people left them and joined Umueze village instead of remaining in Isuanioma. And these people they are taking about said they would remain in Umueze, their traditional home."
Emenike explained that the said Isuanioma autonomous community along with others were created in Anambra State in 2002 under Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju's administration in Anambra but was repealed by Governor Chris Nwabueze Ngige in 2004 who asked the communities to go back to statusquo, a condition he said was upheld by the immediated past Governor, Mr Peter Obi "and Anambra has 177 communities of which Isuofia is one. The village head said his people were living in danger.
In a petition to the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Gwary Usman, through its lawyers, Obele-Chuka, Nnyigide & Co Udensi's family whose properties were destroyed said the attackers brought false allegation of being in possession of fire arms against them to get them incriminatedd.
When contacted, the Anambra State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Emeka Chukwuemeka (DSP) said he had not been informed of the crisis.
