Obiano Assures Youths Of Better Days Ahead

The Anambra State Commissioner for Special Duties, Sir Norbert Obi has assured the youths of Anambra state that the present leadership under His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano is committed to creating employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths in the state.

Sir Norbert Obi gave the assurance during a two-day Youth Entrepreneurship Mentorship program organized for youths of Nnewi North/South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency and sponsored by Hon. Chris Azubogu, member representing the constituency in the National Assembly and which was held at Anaedo Hall Nnewi, Anambra State.

Sir Obi who described the event as timely, thanked God who inspired the organizers of the summit. In his words: “This is precisely the kind of ideas we need at this moment to effect drastic changes in the history of our dear state. As we all know, youth unemployment has over the last three decades remained an intricate issues of concern to all and sundry in Nigeria. The consequences of which have informed the current wave of violence and the escalation of other forms of social vices like kidnapping, political assassination, thurggery, armed robbery and the likes.”

The Special Duties Commissioner further told his audience that away from the unemployment issue facing the country, a more challenging and worrisome problem facing Nigeria’s economy today is the issue of UNEMPLOYABILITY of Nigerian graduates and school leavers. He described unemployability as a situation where an individual who has attained formal education lacks the social, mental, practical and innovative skills to enable him effectively and efficiently handle routine work or career.

According to him, available research statistics revealed that most Nigerian graduates are not adequately equipped for the challenges of career and business growth. In his assertion: “This situation has continued to worsen the economic challenges facing the nation. Against this backdrop, I strongly believe that this event has been organized to help inspire all of you, our youths to begin your journey to economic freedom. This summit will provide you with the required business development, Entrepreneurship and finance management skills in order to prepare you for the challenges of becoming Business Owners and Managers that will be globally competitive.” 

“To this end, I congratulate all of you in advance and assure the organizers of this summit of continued cooperation and support of the state government especially as His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano is determined to transform the state under the four pillars of development: Oil & Gas, Trade and Commerce, Agriculture and Industrialization. Also, be informed that youth employment will get priority attention in His Excellency’s four-point Agenda”.

Sir Norbert finally assured the youths that his ministry and that of youth and sports are synergizing to work out strategies to coordinate among other things, the activities to enhance youth employability in the state.

The occasion was attended by over 1,000 youths from the 3 local governments making up the constituency. Most of the delegates to the workshop expressed their gratitude to the sponsor, Hon. Chris Azubogu and prayed God to continue to bless him.
