How Nigerian Army Was Infiltrated By Boko Haram

                                                          

Our support for the internationalization of Nigeria’s war against the Boko Haram terrorism is by no means a vote of no confidence against the Nigerian Security Forces. However, our greatest worry is the presence of terrorists camouflaged as officers and men within the Nigeria Armed Forces. Nothing does more incalculable damage to Nigeria’s counter terrorism strives than the fact some of our security men themselves have been aiding and abating terrorism. This that is exactly what we trust the arrival of Special Forces from across the globe will effectively checkmate.

DSS Deputy Director, Public Relations, Marilyn Ogar said the masterminds of the blast, Rufai Tsiga (aka Dr. Tsiga), and a military deserter, Aminu Ogwuche, had been declared wanted.

According to her, Ogwuche was once arrested on November 12, 2011 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on his arrival from the United Kingdom, for suspected involvement in terrorism-related activities.

She added that he was released on bail on October 15, 2012 to his father, Col. Agene Ogwuche (retd.), following intense pressure from human rights activists who alleged human rights violation.

A security source said, “A soldier who trains Special Forces at the Nigerian Army Training Centre in Kontagora, Niger State, was among those who were killed.

“The man was not among the Special Forces; he was obviously leading the attack for the insurgents but he got killed.

“It was one of the soldiers that identified him as somebody from his unit in Kotangora.

“The soldier called attention to the man’s corpse and when the commander said he should be searched, they recovered a current pass authorising him to leave Kotangora and his Army identity card from him.”

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, on Wednesday, said some rogue soldiers have been helping the terrorist group Boko Haram with intelligence and conspiring with them to frustrate military operation against terrorists in Northern Nigeria.

“As you are aware, a soldier gave out information on the movement of our troops to Mali…

“The troops were attacked somewhere close to Okene. The guy has been apprehended and is going to be court-martialed,” he said.

“There are some soldiers that have been found to be posting negative comments on the Internet and some conversing with insurgents.

Eighteen soldiers, including a lieutenant, on Monday appeared before a General Court Martial in Jos, Plateau State for aiding members of the fundamentalist Islamic sect, Boko Haram, and other insurgent groups in their activities.

The soldiers are members of the Joint Task Force code named Operation Restore Order in Borno State and the Special Task Force also known as Operation Safe Heaven in Plateau State.

The JTF and STF were deployed in the two states following the menace of insurgent groups in the country. While the JTF is also battling with Boko Haram members in Adamawa, and Yobe states, the STF has been grasping with Fulani herdsmen who, in the past 10 years had taken Plateau State by the jugular.

The soldiers are being tried under charges termed, “communication with the enemies, cowardly behaviour, murder and manslaughter.”

A serving riot police officer, Corporal Mohammed Uba, was yesterday arrested along with 29 other Fulani gunmen following an attack on three villages in Barkin Ladi Local Government area of Plateau State in which at least 12 people were killed.

The STF Spokesman, Captain Charles Ekeocha said:

“On sigting our men who had pursued them into the hill, the attackers opened fire on them. And in the exchange of fire between the attackers and men of the STF, two Fulani were killed and 29 captured alive.”

“One of the arrested Fulani attackers is a member of the Police Mobile Force serving in Abuja. He gave his particulars as No.S220015, and his name as Corporal Mohammed Uba, of 44 Police Mobile Force, Abuja.”
