Boko Haram: Supreme Council Declares One Month Fasting And Praying In Anambra

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Anambra state  today declared a one-month fasting and praying sessions to seek God's intervention in the current activities of Boko Haram insurgents in the country which has painted Islam in the bad light.

Vice Chairman of the council, Alhaji Dauda Ajagu who announced this in Onitsha, Anambra State, shortly after their crucial meeting, said the fasting and praying session would take place every Mondays and Thursday throughout this month of May.

He therefore directed all the Muslim faithful to adhere strictly to the fasting and prayers since according to him, it is only God that can restore peace and harmony in the country.

He condemned the activities of the Boko Haram sects, adding that what they are doing is not Islamic religion and cannot in any way, draw any support from the Islamic leaders.

The Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs said the council was completely dissociating itself from the Boko Haram activities and warned the insurgents to desist from kidnapping and bombing and be of good behavior if they really want to see the much cherished Paradise of God.

He appealed to the Muslim leaders and fathers of the so-called Boko Haram members to call their subjects to order now that they are over-stepping their bounds, before it becomes too late, adding that God's wrath awaits those who shed innocent blood at whatever guise even as he commended the federal government and the Joint Task Force, JTF for their efforts so far in fighting the insurgents and urged them not to relent until their nefarious activities are stamped out completely from the surface of the Nigerian nation.

Meanwhile, an Igbo leader, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka has urged security agencies to be pro-active in fighting the Boko haram insurgents.

He blamed the security agencies for not exhibiting enough intelligence while discharging their duties, even as he advocated that they should apply what he described as use of intelligence, surveillance and patrol to intercept anti social elements in society.

His words: "The police are only after what will go into their pockets. We are in a digital era and that should be properly exploited for crime control and prevention. It is surprising that people will be kidnapped and the kidnappers do not fly in the air, they will use the roads even for a long distance with their victims without being apprehended. Don't you see there is need for police urgent reorientation?"

Ezeonwuka stated that nobody should blame President Goodluck Jonathan for having not done magic to stop the activities of the insurgents since, according to him, "despite the fact that the President is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, every State of the federation has a Governor as the Chief Security Officer, the Commissioner of Police is there down to Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, DPOs. What are they doing?. Let us face the fact".
