Former
Presidential aspirant and chieftain of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA),
Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Obianagha has sent a Save Our Souls (SOS) appeal to the
Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar to step into what he called lawlessness
that has taken over Ikenga-Ogidi community , Idemmili North local government
area , Anambra state before lives are lost.
Obianagha
, a community leader raised alarm that his life is in danger and called for
urgent intervention from the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.
Obianagha said: “So, I am raising
this alarm because my life is in danger. I am a well- known politician in this
country and I cannot leave my family to run away. This is because in 2011 a
similar development claimed the life of Arinze Anaikwu and his corpse
remained in the mortuary until recently. This is the only community I know that
does not obey the police or court order. My life is danger and we are not safe.
The situation is critical”.
Throughout yesterday, Mr. Ekume
could not pick calls put through by newsmen as he repeatedly said he was in a meeting
and could not take calls.
Anambra
state police spokesperson DSP Emeka Chukwuemeka when contacted said he was not
aware of the situation but said the Commissioner of police is now in Ogidi
Divisionla Police station in his ongoing tour of the police formations in the
state but assured that if there something like that, our reporter would be
intimated.
Obanagha alleged that since Friday
last week, guns have been freely used by thugs suspected to be ‘boys’ of the
President General of Ikenga Ogidi Union, one Mr. Amaechi Ekume, are terrorizing
the community. He expressed fear that when similar condition existed in the
community in 2011, it claimed the life of one Arinze Anuikwu.
The present condition, Obianagha
alleged, like what happened in 2011 arose from Ekume denying those who bought
land genuinely from the community from using their land and insisted they would
buy it a second time.
These people went to Idemili High
court sitting in Ogidi in suit No. HID/84/2013/304M/2013 in which Justice Ike
Ogu restrained Ekume and his ilk in a judgment delivered on January 13, 2014.
He alleged further that despite the
judgment and several meetings both parties had with the Divisional Police
Officer of Ogidi Division, Ekume and his boys were bent on having their way.
The matter became worst last Friday
when buyers of the land went with some workers from Ikenga Ogidi to develop
their plots but were chased away by the Ekume boys.
Then on Monday, April 7 the buyers again went
to their land to develop it, this time with some police men for protection, but
this time Ekume boys allegedly not only chased away both the buyers and
police men but captured some workers who they picked with machete and heavily
brutalized them.
They took the workers which included
three brothers of the same family, namely: Arinze Udeh, Chinedu Udeh and
Udoka Udeh and took them to State Armed Robbery Squad (SARS) Awkuzu where the
boys claimed they were Vigilante men and their captives were armed robbers.
But when they could not produce
their identity card to buttress their claim, SARS men ordered them to leave
their station and they dumped the three brothers at the gate of Ogidi police
station.
Obianagha further alleged that the
situation again turned to threatening dimension when the Ekume boys shot
sporadically throughout last night and went from house to house warning that
should anybody disobey their order he will meet his waterloo.
