Obiano’s Nominees Confirmation Would Be Based On Equity To Three Senatorial Zones

                                     

Anambra state House of Assembly yesterday said confirmation of the 19 commissioners and 10 special advisers presented to the House by Governor
Willie Obiano would be based on equity among the three senatorial
zones, so said the House committee on screening.

A member of the committee, Hon. Chugbo Enwezor: “The committee which I am a member would screen and see whether the political balancing of the three senatorial zones were taken care of. But I think the governor must have taken note of this requirement".

Enwezor representing Onitsha North 1 constituency in the state House Assembly said the committee would screen the nominated political appointees and
make sure that there was political balancing of the three senatorial
zones before their confirmation by the lawmakers.

He added that the essence of it was to avoid lopsidedness in political
appointments in the state as had been witnessed in the past. He noted
that from the list of the nominees had seen the governor seem to have
taken care of issue of political position balancing.

On those commissioners retained Enwezor said there was nothing wrong if they were retained, saying that the fact they served under the immediate government of Mr Peter Obi did not pose any disability for them not to be reapointed by the present administration.

“Their reappointment means that the new governor has seen them to be
worthy of the appointment. They are known to me and they deserve
it, having played a key role in the Peter Obi government".

On insinuations in some quarters that there was a plot by some members
of the House of Assembly to impeach the speaker, Princess Chinwe
Nwebili on account that she came from the same senatorial zone with
the governor, Enwezor described it as a mere rumour being peddled by
some mischief makers.

According to him, the lawmakers had never at any time contemplated
such plan and would never hatch such plot, saying that the speaker
would serve out her tenure because she had been on seat before the
present governor was elected.

" It is unreasonable for anybody to now talk about the governor and
speaker coming from the same zone. The former speaker, Anayo Nebe was
a speaker under Mr Peter Obi from the same central senatorial zone.
So, why is this one different", he queried.
