Leader of
the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige
yesterday stated that the party's local government congress in the state would
have been as peaceful as the just concluded wards congress of the party in the
state, if it had taken place as scheduled.
Ngige who spoke at Alor, his home town in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, shortly after their state caucus meeting, said they had concluded arrangements to conduct the exercise but all of a sudden, the national executive directed them to postpone it till Tuesday.
He lamented that they had already finished their harmonization process and were waiting to come to the field to showcase their peaceful coexistence before the latest directive from the national executive of the party.
Contributing, chieftain of APC in the state, Chief Charles Amilo confirmed that delegates from the ward congress had already emerged from the 226 wards for the local government congress before its sudden postponement by the national officers.
Following the peaceful atmosphere that greeted last Tuesday's ward
congresses, the member representing Idemili North and South at the House of
Representatives, Hon. Charles Odedo and the state party leader, Senator Chris
Ngige had told newsmen that the party was battle ready for 2015.
Also, the APC interim national women leader, Lady Sharon Ikeazor
and the National Deputy Youth Leader, Hon. Uzoma Igwenwa, who spoke with
newsmen in various voting centers in the state, said that the exercise showed
that supreme unity is reigning in APC.
According to Odedo in his Nnobi ward two where one Christopher
Ezeyim emerged unopposed, “APC is now ready for PDP in 2015, 95 percent of the
problems in the party has been harmonized”.
“We
started with the stakeholders meeting where all the so-called groups came
together and all the issues were resolved amicably and that is a very good
example by APC. What that shows is that the party is fully prepared for the
2015 battle with PDP in Nigeria”, Odedo stated.
The former national secretary of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples’ Party (ANPP) and Ngige’s Campaign Director-General, Chief George Muoghalu, told reporters that “what had happened in Anambra showed that the people desired for change”.

Muoghalu
stated that the rumoured factions by those described as disgruntled elements
does not exist, adding that everybody was happy for the peaceful exercise.
The two
APC House of Assembly members in the state, Hon. Tony one-week Muonagor and
Hon. Ebere Obi told newsmen yesterday that APC had become so popular in the
state, hence, the zeal by the people for change.
Some of the APC state officials like the Interim Publicity
Secretary, Mr Chukwuma Agufugo whose Enugwu-Ukwu ward 2 witnessed a large crowd
said that APC had regrouped in the state.
At Onitsha North Area Council, Barrister Chukwunonso Chinwuba, the Onitsha North Local Government Ward Congress Committee, confirmed that 14 out of 15 wards had concluded their own exercise on a peaceful note, expect ward 6 where the exercise was still going on as at the time of filing this report.
Also at Onitsha South, the congress committee had concluded their own exercise and left as at when newsmen visited, but Hon. Ike Moedu and Okechukwu Atolu, APC stakeholders, told newsmen that every thing had been concluded peacefully.
