Cricket Lovers Please Come And See Chuma Anosike Cup In Action Scheduled For Ebonyi ; As Umuahia Government College Hosts National Junior Cricket League

CHUMA ANOSIKE CUP KICKS-OFF NEXT WEEKEND

Arrangements have been concluded for the kick-off of South-East Cricket Championship for Chuma Anosike cup.

 

According to Emeka Igwilo, the Coordinator of the Championship, all the South Eastern States, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States are getting ready to bowl in the four days encounter scheduled to hold next weekend in Afikpo, Ebonyi State.

The T20 and ODI encounters which will start on Thursday, 27^th March and end on Sunday 30^th March will hold at one of the premier schools in Nigeria, Government Secondary School Afikpo, Ebonyi State.

University of Nigeria, the current runner-up in the just concluded Nigeria University Games, and the representative of Enugu State in the competition, is expected to marshal out their Lions in fight to reclaim the coveted trophy they lost to Anambra in 2013.

Anambra team is not leaving any stone unturned as it hopes to showcase a young squad that is ready to retain the trophy. Imo and Abia states are also preparing to pull the rug off the feet of Enugu and Anambra States.

In order to ensure they carried the day, the host State, Ebonyi State, over the weekend, played friendly games to gather momentum for the big boom.

The sponsor of the competition, Bar. Chuma Anosike has emphasised that his dream of developing the youths and providing platform for their social integration cannot diminish. He stated that this year’s encounter taking place in Afikpo, Ebonyi State is unique as almost all the States in the region have hosted the event.

The host, Ebonyi State is to produce 2 teams (Government Secondary School Afikpo and Trinity Secondary School, Abakaliki), while Anambra, Imo, Enugu and Abia will produce a team each, making a total of 6 teams for 2 group onslaught.

University of Nigeria won the maiden and second editions hosted by Imo and Enugu States respectively. Anambra won the 3^rd edition which took place in Awka, Anambra State. This 4^th edition is therefore dicey as State teams, clubs or schools are always qualified to represent their States in this Classic Championship.

GOVERNMENT COLLEGE, UMUAHIA READY TO HOST NATIONAL EVENT IN EASTER

Government College, Umuahia, Abia State has confirmed their readiness to host the 18th HOWZAT National Junior Cricket Super League for Philip Asiodu Trophy.

The event which begins Thursday April 16^th and ends Sunday 20^th April 2014, promises to be the survival of the fittest as about 10 schools from around the nation will converge to witness the Cricket Ground of the school that produced greats like Chinua Achebe and many others.

The School has already confirmed they are getting at nothing to make sure the event is worthwhile and memorable.
