Anambra CP Tasks Hoteliers On Security




                                    
 
Commissioner of Police, Anambra state Usman Gwari yesterday challenged hotel proprietors and employees to imbibe the culture of revealing information of any threat in their hotels to the security operatives in the state.

CP Gwari Stated this during the security stakeholders meeting with hotel management community in Anambra State organized by the Coordinator, Police Consultant on Vigilante Matters, Chief Kenneth Okonkwo in collaboration with the Anambra State Police Command.
He explained Police explained that the workshop will no doubt improve the security communication between hotel management and security operatives in the state adding that the effort is to identify criminals who lodge in various hotels.   

He further encouraged them to report any suspicious movement to the police or other security formations in the state to enable the command eliminate violent crimes , kidnapping and the likes.   
Gwari said:  “crime management in our various communities is everybody’s responsibility and not the police alone. This workshop is very important as almost all the police commands in Nigeria are doing this as a way of managing crime in our communities. It was initiated by our headquarters in Abuja. It is very important that we install CCTV in our hotels to capture the pictures of customers.   

He however urged hoteliers in Anambra State to ensure that their hotels are registered to enable them capture the data base of hotels in Anambra State. 
 
Coordinator and Police Consultant on Vigilante Matters, Chief Kenneth Okonkwo commended CP Gwari for his stand on zero tolerance on crime and his pattern of operation in combating crime in the state.
He identified logistics as the major challenge of security operatives in Nigeria, stressing that more work will be done if more logistics are provided.     

On what he intends to achieve through the workshop, Chief Okonkwo said: “a lot of crime has been committed in the hotel industry which out of ignorance, the hoteliers don’t know what to do. This workshop will help them to know what to do especially when they sense danger. So, our aim is to send good signal towards realization of hotel security friendliness in Anambra State.   

Responding, the State Chairman, Anambra State Hotel Management Association, Chief Ernest Odimegwu thanked Kenneth Okonkwo for organizing the workshop but did not mince words in blaming Gov. Peter Obi in some of the problems faced by hotel proprietors in Anambra State.

He said: “The State creates new revenue windows especially the APLUC that imposes many challenges on us. We want them to know that some hoteliers borrowed money from banks and financial institutions to erect these hotels...”
