Tears flowed freely. And it was a mild drama to behold as the Head of Service of Anambra State, Sir Chidi Ezeoke broke down in tears , addressing Governor Peter Obi, other top government officials and the newly recruited 2,500 teachers.

The drama played out mid way into the Head of Service address to the 2,500 newly recruited civil servants in Anambra State at the Chief Jerome Udoji Secretariat yesterday.

When he regained himself, Ezeoke said: "My emotions are only running riot, a joyful riot over the profundity of What Governor Obi has done for the State Civil Service."

The Head of Service described the State Civil Service as ageing, adding that by Obi's action of not only employing people massively, the first since the State was created, but also providing them with necessary tools to work, that the Service was born again. He enjoined  the newly recruited, those he called his colleagues,  to observe all the rules  of service and bring honour to the service at all times.

He eulogized Governor Obi, whom he called the " Father of Anambra's modern civil Service’’, adding that before Obi, civil servants in the State had no Secretariat and worked from different offices scattered around the State with unpaid arrears and gratuities running into Billions of Naira.

He announced joyfully that Governor Obi had not only built brand new secretariats for the State, but has also paid all the arrears of pensions and gratuities owned Civil servants in the State. He commended Gov. Peter Obi for conforming to global best practices by making Anambra Civil Servants partakers in contributory pension Scheme for guaranteed future.

He said: "Recalling all that Governor Obi did for the Service, one is permitted to shed tears of joy. It was only in his Government that Permanent Secretaries were bought brand new cars twice. He also bought brand new vehicles for all the Directors in the Service, State and Local Government,".

In his own remarks, the Governor charged the new civil service recruits to always have the interest of Anambra State at heart at all times.

Recalling those who made Anambra proud and great in the past, he reminded them that they have the duty of sustaining that greatness by always embracing noble actions and playing by the rules.

Lecturing them on the dignity of labour, the Governor told them to be proud of the Civil Service that recruited them as everybody is expected to be with any work that cloth and fed him. Describing their new jobs as their future, he assured them that with diligence and hard work, they would rise to become Directors, Permanent Secretaries and even Governors.

Assuring them of Job security, Obi told them, amidst thunderous applause,  that he had already  paid into the bank their salaries for the next 18 months.
