The National Committee against Touting and other Related Matters (NCAT),
Anambra State Command today decried the activities of touts and hoodlums
who extort money from innocent people in the state.
The committee lamented the diversion of government revenue into
private coffers by unscrupulous individuals and warned that it would no longer
be business as usual for the extortionists.
Deputy State Coordinator of the group, Hon. Okwudili
Ohanazoeze told reporters in Onitsha that the activities of touts in the state
is a challenge to the law which the command will no longer tolerate or condone
their excesses .
Ohanazoeze said the command has resolved to fight those touts that
extort money from barrow pushers, tricycle, cyclists and luggage carriers at
various markets in Onitsha metropolis and other parts of the state.
He regretted that the state has lost several billions of naira to
touts while at the same time threatening the activities of registered
privatized parks in the state thereby denying government all accruable revenue
there from.
He said his command shall dismantle all touting networks wherever
they exist in Anambra state by carrying out routine and regular verification of
all persons in all identified touting points in the state.
“Here in Anambra State, this hydra –headed social
monsters have been operating with impunity and rascality as if there are no
laws in the state. This is a challenge and NCAT can no longer tolerate or
condone their excesses in this direction. Our duties and
responsibilities as NCAT officials are to basically flush out touts from all
nooks and crannies of Anambra State. To dismantle
roadblocks mounted by revenue agents orchestrating double or over taxation,
harassing, intimidating and molesting transporters and investors doing
legitimate business or passing through the state.” He said.
