THE STORY
The All Progressives
Grand Alliance (APGA) has said it will take over leadership from All
Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo state in the next General Elections.
APGA Leader in Imo State, Chief Martin Agbaso stated this at Rojenny Tourist Garden, Oba,
Idemmili South during a courtesy call to Ogirishi Igbo Foundation .
Agbaso said that APGA
must take back Imo and all states in the South-East in the next election, ``We
must APGA-rize the whole South-East’’.
He however urged Federal
and state governments to put concerted efforts to achieve a viable economic and
industrial revolution within the South-East.
He noted that God had
blessed the Igbo-man with wisdom of industry and hard work but there was a need
for the governments to provide enabling environment to tap this great natural
endowment.
``We must reposition our
people to tap and survive from the natural endowment God had blessed us with.
``And an average
Igbo-man is industrious and very hardworking.
``What we need is that
those things that matter, which concerns us, especially the issue of the
economic we would never been taken for granted on it in the country.
``And we, Ndi-Igbo, must
evolve politics of economic and industrial development to fast-track the
development of our people and create jobs in the South-East,’’ he said.
Agbaso noted that the
South-East must be re-invigorated to start mass production in all ramifications
no matter how small, even if it is multiple cottage industries.
``With this we would
effectively check capital flight in the zone.
``We must produce for
other zones and countries to buy and then we would add value to our industry
and hard work,’’ he said.
Responding, the Ogirishi
Igbo of Igbo-land, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, said that APGA remains the voice of
the South-East; while every Igbo-man must identify with APGA to have a
self-identity in the country.
``APGA is the only
platform the people from the South-East have to negotiate within the Nigeria project.
``And we must not loss
our own and be a people that will not be counted within the political scheme of
the country,’’ Ezeonwuka, who is an Ohanaze chieftain, said.
Chief David Igwilo, the Ochinana Nnewi and Anaedo, assured Agbaso
that Anambra APGA would mobilize to take over Imo just as the party took over
power in the state in the last governorship election.
``We will support you,
follow you in this fight and carry the entire machinery of APGA in Anambra to
Imo and once more rescue the state back to the party,’’ Igwilo, who is an APGA
Chieftain, said.
