The All progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has
said that the council elections in the Nnewi North local government area last Saturday
was declared inconclusive by the Anambra state Independent Electoral Commission
(ANSIEC).
APGA Nnewi North Chapter Chairman, Hon Dan Nnadi decried the conflicting reports it is getting about
the election that Labour Party is parading faked results that it won the
election.
APGA said Labour did not win the Local government elections
conducted last Saturday in Nnewi North local government area , adding that
before ANSIEC cancelled the election its candidate was in an early lead in 8
wards out of the 10 wards in Nnewi comprising of 198 polling units.
Nnadi flanked by the state Auditor of APGA Patterson
Uzuegbunam and Chairmanship candidate of the party Hon Okey C. Ofor appealed
that anytime the election is re-scheduled , security should be beefed up to
avoid people unleashing mayhem on the electorates.
Nnadi informed further that it was security lapses
that made ANSIEC cancel the election as Labour party members were molesting and
beating electoral officials demanding for the results sheets, and wondered why
they should be standing truth on the head over the election.
‘’ordinarily we should not afford them a reply but
the discerning public should be told that Labour people are standing truth on
the head and whatever comes out of them should be discountenanced ‘’.
He wondered
why the Labour Party that staged a protest march when the results were cancelled
are now claiming victory over an election it protested its cancellation,
describing the claims by Labour party as both Childish and deceitful.
‘’I really wonder why some politicians choose to
play to the gallery. What the Labour Party is doing is to whip cheap public
sentiment by being clever by half. This
is because from the collation we had done, which is still intact and very much
with us, APGA were clearly leading. In fact , the verifiable records are there
and anybody that wishes to confirm this is very free to come to our office. At
the appropriate time, we may even consider releasing the result to put records
straight and fior posterity , but for now we are working assiduously to give
the people a credible election in Nnewi. We want every vote to count , it must
be one man one vote.
In his remarks , Uzuegbunam said the Labour party
protest was stage managed as the crowd was a rented one to breech the peace of
the industrial city.
