PDP Frowns Over Labour Party Claims On Local Government Elections

                                         

Peoples Democratic Party in Nnewi North local government area Anambra state yesterday said it stood by the cancellation of the last Saturday’s local government re-scheduled election by the Anambra state Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).

Briefing newsmen on their stand over the cancelled election, the PDP Chairman in Nnewi North/PDP Local government Agent in the said election, Ifeanyi David, a lawyer said the last election was inconclusive as declared by ANSIEC.

He was worried by some insinuations in some quarters that the Labour party won the said cancelled elections, reminding that the election was cancelled by ANSIEC around 10:30 am and therefore could not have produced results purportedly being paraded by a political party.

David flanked by PDP party leader in Nnewi North, Sam Ben-Nwosu and the councilors as well as the PDP Candidate Chairmanship candidate warned that the party would not tolerate any illegality with regards to the cancelled election as the party has gone back to the drawing board to prepare for a fresh election any day ANSIEC would fix it and advised other parties to be law abiding.

‘’Once the EO confirmed to me that the election would not be holding again as it was cancelled , I contacted my agents at the polling units and told them to withdraw from the election that ANSIEC has cancelled it and they did in obedience to law and order. We were taken aback when we started hearing and seeing false results being circulated everywhere. Why would anyone want to circulate a fake result that was never announced by ANSIEC and gave victory purportedly to a political party. We are amazed on how the results emerged.

‘’PDP in Nnewi categorically state that the election was inconclusive and no results were released by ANSIEC. Any result by any individual should be disregarded because it is false and a calculated attempt to cause disaffection and breech the peace now in the commercial city of Onitsha. ANSIEC cancelled the election and we abide by that. None of our agents signed the result an if they do we should have copies. And I am not in a position to say Labour party forged the results being paraded………’’.      

  He urged Nnewi residents and members of PDP to be calm and peaceful as ANSIEC is the only authorized body to announce results and call for a fresh election in Nnewi North having cancelled the last Saturday’s election.
