A community leader in Anambra State, Chief
Paulinus Anagboso has condemned what he called Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s
intemperate abuse of the people of Anambra, expressing surprise that somebody
occupying a position of responsibility like him will speak without
circumspection.
He was reacting to reports credited to
Owelle Rochas Okorocha that Anambra people are the problem of Igbo land.
Chief Anagboso regretted such statements
for being capable of truncating Igbo unity, which, according to him,
responsible Igbo leaders are championing. “It is regrettable that when
other geopolitical zones are forging central unity, people like Rochas Okorocha
are creating enmity among Igbos. Does he realize at all that internal
unity is a prerequisite for solidarity and once a people are destroyed from
within, they are finished?”
Anagboso, who recalled that during the
launching of the distribution of books by Sir Emeka Offor Foundation at
Oraifite that the same Rochas commended the people of Anambra State for their
industry and called them the “pride of the Igbos” wondered what has gone
wrong. “Even at that event, when he was newly sworn-in as the Governor of
Imo State, he said that for the first time in his life, he went to election
without spending a kobo as Sir Emeka Offor and Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah sponsored his
election. The only gratitude he owes them is to now call them “money bag”
politicians.
Wondering why Rochas should make any
reference, direct or indirect, to Governor Obi, Anagboso said that Obi was far
ahead of Rochas in any aspect of life for Rochas to vilify him in any
way. He said that even recently, the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most
Rev. Obinna appealed to Rochas to emulate Governor Obi in the art of
governance.
He regretted that while other people in
Nigeria see Anambra people in Nigeria as most industrious Nigerians, that it
was surprising for Rochas to make uncomplimentary remarks about them.
Concluding, he appealed to Igbos to shun
divisive tendencies and work together as brothers and sisters rather than make
unguarded statement as Rochas did, which, he said, was more out of inferiority
complex.
