The issue of poor away displays seems to have diminished, and if they continue their phenomenal form, the Premier League title is theirs to lose.
Manchester City are still suffering from their poor start to the season which found them in 8th place after 11 games, but since the 1-0 loss to Sunderland at the beginning of November, City have embarked on a brilliant run during which they have amassed 25 points from a possible 27.
Two months into the season, City’s title ambitions seemed to have been marred due to their poor away form; in their first six away games they only managed to nick one win against West Ham. One of City’s key attributes though was and still is their flawless home form. An astonishing fact is that no team has yet managed to pick up a mere point at the Etihad in the Premier League; yet alone a win.
Lately though they’ve managed to put aside their away miseries and are constantly winning games away from Manchester just as they have been at the Etihad. Their star-packed squad has provided an attractive attacking style that makes them one of the most entertaining teams to watch in the Premier League.
Their victory over Arsenal in December left their rivals no illusions as to their Premier League ambitions, thrashing Arsene Wenger's side 6-3 in a dominant and ruthless display. Add to that a 4-1 win over their next-door neighbours Manchester United, and a 5-0 victory over Spurs, shows just what Manchester City are capable of when at their best.
It is also worth noticing that in these past few weeks during which City have played so well they have been without their key man upfront Sergio Aguero. The Argentine forward has played an integral role at City ever since he arrived from Atletico Madrid in 2011, and was in the form of his life before sustaining a calf injury against Arsenal in December.
Yet even without the man responsible for nineteen goals in all competitions for City so far this season, they have coped well and showed they have enough squad depth and quality to win games without arguably their most important player.
With Aguero almost fully recovered from injury, and the best overall squad in the league in terms of quality and depth at his disposal, Pellegrini has no excuse not to guide Manchester City to a second Premier League title in May.
