Unemployed man, 40, faces N1.1m theft charge


A 40-year-old unemployed man, Sunday Jackson, who allegedly stole goods worth N1.1 million, on Tuesday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of stealing preferred against him by the police.
Police Prosecutor, Insp. Abbass Abayomi, said that the accused committed the offence sometime in August, at No. 26, Agbunike St., Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
He said that the accused stole goods worth N1.1 million belonging to the complainant, Mrs Jennifer Osolar.
“The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” Abayomi said.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Mr Emmanuel Okedi, counsel to the accused,  urged the court to grant his client bail on the most liberal terms.
The magistrate, Mr Abiodun Adefulire, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and one of them must be a civil servant.
The magistrate said that the sureties must show means of identification, proof of address, and have a minimum of N250,000 balance in their bank accounts.
Furthermore, each surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till Oct. 23, for mention. (NAN)
