They were speechless but wondered if such a little
thing could not get his attention , what is he going to the National Assembly
to do for Awka North and South Federal Constutuecny?
However , the state Commissioner for Works, Engineer
Marcel Ifejiofor early this morning led a government team to Nibo-Umuawulu road
which cut into two following last night's rainfall.
The prompt visit by the Commissioner for Road
Construction, Furniture and Maintenance Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor , The
Managing Director of Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency Engineer Emeka Okoye
,and other Directors in the Ministry of Road Construction to see first hand the
level of damage on the road was a demonstration of synergy between the
government and people at the grassroots.
When the team arrived the site, It was discovered that
one of the two bridges along Nibo-Umuawulu road, has collapsed and the other
threatening to cave in.
The collapsed portion of the bridge, a large crowd was
seen gathered at the area, most of them lamenting the unfortunate incident,
including the Deputy Speaker and member representing Awka South Two, in the
State House of Assembly Barrister Harford Oseke who could have used his good
offices to repair the road before it cut.
Commissioner Ifejiofor in his reaction said government
will swing into action immediately, through the Anambra State Road Maintainace
Agency, ARMA, so that the area could be linked back to other communities.
Engineer Ifejiofor who noted that the situation is a
natural disaster especially with the constant rainfall, urged motorists plying
the route to use alternative roads assuring that the road will be put back to
use in the next forty eight hours.
The Managing Director ARMA Engineer Okoye who
expressed regrets over the situation and thanked God that no life was lost,
said he will mobilise his men to the sites immediately.
On his part, Barrister Oseke who described the
situation as unfortunate, appreciated state government for the quick response
which he said is a clear indication that the Obiano administration is
responsive.
The traditional ruler of the community Igwe Joel
Egwuonu who also noted that the havoc would bring untold hardship on the people
of the area, and those who pass through the road to Orumba, commended the
governor for doing a good job even as he appreciated government for quick
intervention on the disaster.
