Police seal off Anambra PDP office

www.odogwublog.com reports that the  Anambra Police Command yesterday sealed the Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Anambra State chapter at Udoka in Awka, the state capital. The PDP members alleged that the police brutalized its members unnecessarily.

The police claimed the seal was following a fracas that erupted early in the day to avoid further breakdown of law and order.

The command's spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed said the office was locked up to prevent break down of law and order.

He said the state had been peaceful over time that nobody would be allowed to jeopardize the situation, no matter how highly placed.

His words: "The police will take control of the area until when normalcy returns". He added that the police were on top of the situation.

He denied the allegation by the protesters that scores of their supporters were brutalized by thugs and some policemen during the demonstration.

An Assistant legal Adviser of the party, Ndubuisi Durkins, who led the protesters had claimed that some of their members were injured .
He said the crux of their protest was the imposition of a caretaker leadership on them by the national hierarchy of the party despite a substantive court judgment that annulled the arrangement.

The protesters described the chairman of the caretaker committee, Ndubuisi Nwobu, as a sellout who abandoned their collective struggle for what they called selfish and pecuniary interests.
Before the police took over the premises, the caretaker committee faction of the party had broken the Secretariat gate to gain entrance for a brief meeting.

Addressing reporters, Nwobu described the protesters as fifth columnist planted to sabotage the party's chances in the 2019 general elections in the state.

He accused a senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance  (APGA) in the Anambra South district as the sponsors of the protesters.

He said: "We know their plans and their sponsor. This man has his elder brother and cronies planted in PDP while he is contesting senatorial election in APGA.
" When we discovered their antics that lacked civility and decorum we decided to take the best decision to save our party"
Asked whether the mutineers would be sanctioned by the party, Nwobu said," I always act within the ambit of civility which always makes better sense".
