Two front-line aspirants of the People’s Democratic
Party (PDP), Chiefs Obinna Uzo and Dr. Alex Obiogbolu have joined the race for
the Senatorial race for Anambra North and Anambra South districts respectively
in the forthcoming elections, reports www.odogwublog.com .
Uzo and Obiogbolu had contested the Governorship
election to become Anambra Governor to no avail but recently declared interest
to contest the Senate.
They have already submitted their completed
Nominations Forms to the Hon. Ndubisi Nwobu-led PDP’s State Executive at the
Party’s Secretariat in Awka, the State capital on Monday September 10, 2018.
They predicted victory for PDP, and hoped PDP will provide
a level-playing ground by conducting a free, fair and credible primary.
According to Uzo, a lawyer and philanthropist, the
submission of the form by him is preparatory to his campaign to unseat the
incumbent, Senator Andy, who is currently in All Progressives Congress (APC)
and angling to return to the Upper Chamber for the third time.
He expressed the hope that national leadership of PDP
will assist to provide a united front to enable the party reclaim the State,
stressing that PDP dominates in senatorial election while All Progressives
Grand Alliance (APGA) has the upper hand in the governorship race.
Uzo who is gunning for the Senatorial seat for the
second time after failed bid to occupy the office of the governor for the
second time, hinted that his repeated aspirations are indication that he wants
to give quality representation and dividends of democracy to his constituents.
He condemned the ploy by some politicians to hoodwink
the electorate and come to them only during election period, and urged them
to collect monetary and material
inducements, but to vote according to their conscience at the polling booth.
Obiogbolu who spoke in the same vein on his aspiration
for the Anambra North Senatorial seat, expressed the hope that the defection of
the incumbent Senator, Princess Stella Oduah to APGA has brightened the chances
of PDP to reclaim the seat.
He said that he remains one of the few contestants in
PDP who have not dumped the party even in the face of injustice and denial of
ticket, and called on the party to back those who have contributed to its
growth and development over the years.
The former governorship aspirant of the party years
back expressed optimism that he is sure to get the ticket to run in his
constituency and called on members and supporters to close ranks and support
the current leadership to take the party to the promise land.
