reports that Anambra state police command have arrested a suspect who specializes
in trafficking girls to Ghana for prostitution.
The police said two victims of the suspect have been
rescued and investigations revealed they are to pay N600,000 each for their travel to
Ghana.
Anambra Commissioner for Police , Umar Garba in a statement
from SP Haruna Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said that
investigations are ongoing to burst the syndicate and arraign the suspect.
The statement read in part: ‘’On the 21August,2018 at about 2046hrs following
intelligence report, Police Detectives attached to Oyi division arrested one
Amaka Adiri 'f' of Number 24 Vbioke Street Benin City.
‘’Suspect allegedly threatened one Gold Ebube Nwogazi
'f' Aged 21years of Ugwunabo LGA of Abia State and seized her Bag at Awkuzu in
Anambra State for refusing to follow her to Ghana for Prostitution.
‘’Meanwhile,
another victim one Chidera Paul 'f' of Umuoba Village Isiala Ngwa Abia State
was also liberated from the suspect who was equally lured for the same purpose.
‘’Preliminary
investigation so far revealed that the victims were to pay the sum of Six
hundred thousand Naira (#600,000) each to the suspect in three months time
while in Ghana to regain their Freedom.
‘’Case under investigation after which suspect would
be charged to Court for prosecution.
‘’The Public
are advised to be weary of such syndicates who go about deceiving innocent
girls under false pretense of securing greener pastures for them abroad
oblivious of the fact that they are to be trafficked and lured into sex slavery’’
.
