Mr Paul Usoro, SAN, has been elected President of the
Nigerian Bar Association, NBA.
Usoro polled 4,509 votes to defeat his two rivals,
Ernest Ojukwu(SAN) and Okafor Obi(SAN), who scored 3,313 and 4,423 votes,
respectively.
Usoro was officially declared winner of the election
yesterday, in Abuja by chairman of the Electoral Committee, NBA, Prof Auwalu
Yadudu.
Meanwhile, Usoro, while reacting to his emergence,
extended a hand of fellowship to other contestants and promised to carry them
along, as well as carry out all the reforms and promises he made during his campaigns.
Other winners are 1st Vice President, Stanley
Chidozie, 2nd Vice; Dada Foluke Dada, 3rd Vice President; Igba Theophilus
Terhile; Secretary General, Jonathan Gunu Taidi; 1st Assistant Sec, Ewenode
William Onoriode; Financial Secretary, Anosike Emeka; Assistant Fin Sec, Ini
Irene Pepple; Treasurer, Olagbegi Oloba Banke; Welfare Secretary, Joshua
Enemali Usman; Publicity Secretary, Kunle Edu and Legal Adviser, Faroubi
Olayinka.
Total of 12,421
lawyers participated in the e-voting process. Outgoing president, Abubakar
Mahmoud described the election as the fairest held so far.
