www.odogwublog.com reports that the Imo
State Government under the auspices of Rescue Mission administration of
Governor Rochas OKOROCHA will conduct democratic elections this Saturday after
more than seven years of administering the 27 councils with politically
appointed officials.
The elections
will be conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) and
from the list of candidates displayed by the commission, it's only the
candidates of the ruling party-APC will participant in the elections that will
produced Executive Chairmen (27) and 645 councillors as against 305 INEC wards,
the governor is using autonomous communities to constitute the state wards as
against Federal Government approved INEC Wards.
Another
important observation is that other prominent political parties in the state
like PDP,APGA, LP and others are boycotting the elections, above all the state
is calm as even the APC candidates "anointed" to participate in the
elections are not campaigning. Certainly it will be a political Carry go.
The Governor
in what seems like a smoke screen in a press statement endorsed by his Chief
Press Secretary Mr Sam Onwuemeodo has called for Free and fair elections.
However,
Barr Charles Ezekwem the state chairman of PDP told the Authority that the
elections are charade noting that the issue of local government elections in
the state is still in Court .
Ezekwem also
said that Governor Okorocha is only invoking contempt of court and the council
elections will be null and void.
It is
pertinent to state that barely 24 hours to this grassroot elections most people
seems not to be aware of what is happening.
