Obiano Inaugurates New Members for Anambra State Civil Service Commission

Governor Willie Obiano has sworn in a five member for the Anambra State Civil Service Commission with Mrs. Collette Nwajiani as Chairperson.

The swearing in ceremony took place at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia.
The new Commission which has Mrs. Collette Nwajiani as Chairperson, has other members including Mr. Philip Kweazu, Chief Simon Onuorah, Sir Moses Anakebe and Mrs. Chichi Ogbuli.

The Commission as a statutory Body with constitutional backing has major among its charges, to recruit, promote and discipline civil servants.

Members of the new Commission who have had their names duly confirmed by the State House of Assembly, were sworn in on behalf of the Governor by the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Barr Uju Nworgu represented by the Chief State Counsel, Barr Dubem Uzoka.

Inaugurating the Commission, Governor Obiano said under their leadership, his government expects to see a rejuvenated and productive civil service where commitment to duty and integrity should be the watchword.

He revealed that their appointment was coming on the heels of his approval of the 2017 promotion of civil servants, having completed the 2015 and 2016 promotions, adding that his government has a lot of welfare packages in the offing for workers.

The Governor noted that the members of the Commission were carefully selected because of their experience and track record of excellence, and charged them to immediately hit the ground running towards achieving their mandate.

The State Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh said the prompt appointment of the new Commission to replace the out gone is testament to the governor's high regard for welfare of civil servants and pledged the workers loyalty and support to his administration as according to him, the Governor has done them well.

Responding on behalf of the new Commission, the Chairperson, Mrs. Nwajiani thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve the state and assured that they will discharge their duties in the best interest of the State.

The Members of the new Commission were later administered with the Oath of office and allegiance.

Anambra embarks on Construction of 80 Room capacity residential blocks for teachers

    The Anambra State Government is presently constructing eighty (80) room residential blocks for teachers in seven hard-to-reach communities of the state.

Governor Willie Obiano disclosed this during a reception organized by the State in honor of students of Regina Paecis Model Secondary School, Onitsha who won the World Technovation Challenge held recently in San Francisco, USA.
Governor Obiano, who explained that the initiative was to encourage teachers posted to hard-to-reach areas of the State to deliver on their service, said the apartments will be made available to the teachers free of charge.

He recalled that to support education in the areas, his government has sustained payment of additional quarters of their salaries to the teachers posted to the hard-to-reach areas and the result has improved quality of education in the areas.

The governor revealed that his government is presently paying attention to a study it conducted in collaboration with the United Nations on the girl child education which reflected very low indices
for the State in some agrarian communities, adding that to address this, plans are ongoing to construct migrant schools near the farms to enable the children of farmers attend school.

Governor Obiano, who noted that the achievement by the World Technovation Challenge Champions was enough evidence that the State Education Sector is witnessing tremendous transformation, said his administration will redouble its efforts at ensuring that the State maintains its position in education.


It will be recalled that at the ceremony, Governor Obiano had presented cheques for one million naira each to the six students who won the World Technovation Challenge as well as announced scholarships for them up to their first University degrees.
