National
Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, weekend, urged the Delta
State Police Command to fish out the killers of Emmanuel Akpojevwughe,
Chairman, Dutchess Energy, Oghara Unit of Petrol Tanker Drivers, PTD, branch of
NUPENG.
The union
expressed shock over the death of Akpojevwughe popularly known as Awo, who was
shot at close range on August 16, 2018 and was left in the pool of his blood by
yet to be identified gunmen.
NUPENG, in a
statement by its President, Prince Williams Apkoreha, demanded an independent
investigation into Akpojevwughe’s death and urged the Police to unravel the
true circumstances that led to the avoidable incident.
The statement said: “As a union that believes
in the sanctity of life, we deeply condemn this heinous, callous, unfortunate
and dastardly act and therefore, call on the Nigeria Police Force, particularly
the Delta State Command, to fish out Akpojevwughe’s killers and make them face
the full weight of the law with immediate effect.
“The leadership of NUPENG further demands an
independent investigation into his death and urge the Police to unravel the
true circumstances that led to this untimely and avoidable death.”
