35 years old, Gabriel Okani, who disguised himself as
a Catholic Seminarian, and a member of car theft syndicate, has been
apprehended by the Imo State Police command after he was caught trying to steal
a Camry car at the Assumpta Cathedral church, Owerri, last Sunday.
Catholic faithfuls had emptied into the Cathedral to
witness the ordination of Priests by the Archbishop, Most Revd Anthony Obinna.
The fake seminarian had wore the white Catholic suntan to beat security and avoid any
suspicions, but unfortunately for him, he was caught.
Gabriel Okani was caught while fiddling with a Camry
car that attracted the attention of other Catholic faithfuls, who upon
interrogation failed to explain his mission, and that he had impersonated a
Seminarian.
It took the timely intervention of security operatives
before irate worshippers could descend the free beatings. He was immediately
taken to the Archbishop who was still conducting the ordination mass.
Dr Obinna had momentarily stopped the ordination mass
to interrogate the suspect who disclosed that he was part of a syndicate, who
were waiting outside for him to bring out the car.
A worshiper in the Church told newsmen that the
suspect confessed that he was a serial car thief and specialized in stealing
Toyota Camry products.
Meanwhile, Imo State Police Spokesman, Andrew Enwerem
confirmed the development, adding that he was in police custody, providing
useful information about the activities of the gang.
