www.odogwublog.com reports that Anambra North staff Association in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, (COOU) Igbariam (COOU) has commended the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano for appointing Prof Greg Nwokoby as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University.
The letter dated 26th May, 2018 and signed by its Chairman, Prof S.A.M Ekwenze and Secretary Dr Anselem C. Nweke commended Obiano for appointing Prof Nwokoby to enthrone domination of Anambra North indigenes in the University.
They insisted that Prof. Greg Nwakoby has tried to protect the interest of Ndi Anambra North in a University where they are in minority, thus bridging the wide gap between Ndi Anambra North and others.

The letter to Obiano by the Anambra North staff in COOU read thus in part: ‘’We your brothers and sisters, who are from Anambra North Senatorial zone working in Chukwuemeka  Odumegwu  Ojukwu  University, want  to  thank  you  for  the appointment of Prof  Greg Nwakoby as Acting Vice-Chancellor of this University, the first time in history an Anambra North born Professor is heading this University. He has come to restore the lost glory and the decay of moral character among the staff of the University. Some of the staff of the University are corrupt. They hinge on the resources of the University to enrich themselves.

‘’We trust this letter meets you well. We deemed it necessary to respond to a petition purportedly written by a faceless group that calls itself concerned Anambra North Staff in COOU. We have decided to respond to the petition in order to clarify issues before Your Excellency.
‘’Your Excellency Sir, the petition was written in bad faith just to malign the character of Prof. Greg Nwakoby and possibly cause problem in the University Community.
‘’We will respond to the issues raised in the petition in a systemic order and the position of the Association is as follows:
‘’Reversing the Gains made by Anambra North Staff during the tenure of Prof. F.U. Okafor: The said letter claims that Prof. Greg Nwakoby in connivance with members of the staff who are of the OAU extraction is working towards reversing the gains made by Ndi Anambra North under Prof F.U. Okafor. This is not true sir. The truth is that Prof. Greg Nwakoby in all his appointment since he assumed office has tried to protect the interest of Ndi Anambra North. Here is a list of those he appointed into office:

‘’ Vice Chancellor's Office: Mr. C.U. Obi from Ogbaru LGA was appointed Special Assistant to the V.C to replace Mr. Ikechukwu Nwonoro who is from Anambra South;  Mrs. Mediatrix Idigo from Anambra East LGA was appointment Confidential Secretary to the V.C to replace Mrs. Anulika Mekoh who is from Anambra Central; Mr. John Ajachukwu from Ayamelum LGA was drafted to the V.C office as Computer Operator to replace Miss. The group informed that: ‘’Prof. Greg Nwakoby's inability to understand why Your Excellency appointed him Ag Vice -Chancellor of COOU: This is also far from the truth. Since his assumption of duty on March 12th, 2018, Prof Greg Nwakoby has taken positive steps and decisions that are all geared towards moving the University forward. He has taken steps to curb the massive acts of corruption and indiscipline he met on ground. He has also taken steps to stop all forms of unethical conduct among teaching, non-teaching and students. To this end, the bad eggs in the University are actually not happy with the state of affairs in the University. The truth is that this group of staff can never be happy with Prof. Greg Nwakoby or any other Vice-Chancellor who insists that the right things should be done. They will continue to resist any form of change that is not in tandem with their selfish desires.

The statement by Anambra North staff Association in COOU concluded: ‘’Finally, we implore your Excellency to ignore the ranting of disgruntled elements who are hiding under the umbrella of Anambra North to pull the University down. These our brothers (if they) are just after their selfish interests and desires led by Prof. Chike Osegbue. They are trying to create problems in the University so that the appointment of Prof. Greg Nwakoby will not be confirmed after his acting capacity, we make bold to say that they (the faceless petitioners) do not represent the collective interest of Ndi Anambra North Staff of the University. They are pursuing their own personal selfish agenda’’.
