2 soldiers, Mopol, civilian killed in failed kidnap operation

Two soldiers, one Mobile Policeman and a civilian driver are feared dead during a failed kidnap attempt on an expatriate at Sterling Oil Exploration, Ogbemakoku/Iyak community in Abua-Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.
When contacted, Joint Task Force, JTF, spokesman, Major Ibrahim Ahdulahi, said: “I can tell you that we had an incident recently in that area, but I cannot give a clear report until we have concluded our internal investigations.”

A community source, said suspected kidnappers, Monday night, killed the victims when they opened fire on an escort Hilux truck providing cover for the target expatriate oil worker.

The source said the foreigner and his driver escaped unhurt after intervention by some community members, who were alerted by sounds of gunshots, and chased away the criminals.

Rivers State Police Command’s spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, did not respond to text inquiries about the alleged fatality involving a MOPOL, with identity of the civilian driver killed in the fatal failed kidnap still unknown.
