Two persons have been arrested by the Anambra State
Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), for alleged
possession of cocaine and cannabis sativa popularly known as Indian hemp.
The suspects, Solomon Michael from Abia State, and
Okechukwu Udenkwo from Anambra State, were arrested during a raid in Onitsha
and Nando respectively.
Addressing newsmen in Awka, the State Commander of the
NDLEA, Mr Sule Momodu, said one of the suspects, Solomon, was a major
distributor of Cannabis Sativa in Onitsha, while Udenkwo was involved in the
business of distributing cocaine in Nando.
The NDLEA Commander said the arrest of the suspects
who have been terrorizing their areas, have restored sanity and peace in those
areas, assuring that they would be charged to court.
While soliciting the cooperation of the various
community leaders to enable them win the war against illicit drug in the state,
Momodu however assured informants that their identities would not be disclosed.
He further called for collective efforts in sustaining
the excellent security recorded in the state while commending Governor Willie
Obiano for his efforts in securing the state.
One of the suspects, Solomon Michael admitted to the
crime and pleaded for pardon while Okechukwu Udenkwo denied committing the
crime.
