www.odogwublog.com reports
that a University Don based in South Africa, Dr. Chinedu Thomas Ekwealor has
officially declared his bid to contest for the Anambra North senatorial seat
under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Ekwealor who is a lecturer at the University of Kwuzulu-Natal, will
battle for the soul of the senatorial district in APGA with Prince Chinedu
Emeka, a former Deputy Governor, and former Nigerian Minister, Senator Prince
Stella Oduah who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to
APGA to run for a second term under the party.
He said Senator Oduah and others who represented the people in the
past are selfish and contributed in impoverishing the people.
Ekwealor, 37, who was known as ‘Ejelete Aluta’ during his NANS
leadership days, told newsmen shortly after meeting with stakeholders from the
area that he was inspired to represent his people at the senate to make quality
laws that will better their lots.
“As somebody who founded NANS in South Africa and the first Nigerian
to serve as the President of World Youth Movement for Democracy, representing
the entire sub-Saharan African Region, I know that I am exposed and qualified
more than others for the senatorial job.
“Anambra North senatorial district which comprised of Anambra East
and West, Onitsha North and South, Ogbaru, Ayamelum and Oyi Local Government
areas, has problem of poor representation at the National Assembly and that is
why I want to go to senate to contribute in making laws that will address those
problems.
“Apart from making laws that will solve myriads of problems facing
the masses in this country, I shall also develop a strategy to ensure that we
facilitate the establishment of ultra modern shopping mall in Anambra North,
empower the youths and support our governor in developing his blue print for
Mechanized agriculture.
Ekwealor also said he will make sure that whatever that belongs to
his constituents, gets to them.
“Anambra North has about 2 million people, out of about 5 million
population of Anambra state and youths in the senatorial district are about 58
percent of the population. We can solve the problems facing the people of the
area, what we lack now are genuine people that can bring about that desired
transformation and development in the area.
“I have all the qualities required to give my people quality
representation. The people there before now are not serving the people but
themselves. We are going to the senate to serve the nation by making available,
those things meant for the people of the district available to them.
“We shall through town hall meetings, find out what the people want,
we take them to the floor and fight until we see them done. The people there
before now have nothing to offer save for the money they can give to the
delegates” he said.
