PRESS RELEASE BY THE PRESIDENT GENERAL OHANAEZE IGBO WOMEN
ORGANIZATION WORLDWIDE, CHIEF HON. MRS. CALISTA NKIRU ADIMACHUKWU AT HER
RESIDENCE IN NNEWI, ANAMBRA STATE, ON THE 28TH OF JUNE, 2018.
The
President General of Ohanaeze Igbo Women Organization Worldwide, Chief
Hon. Mrs. Calista Adimachukwu in a statement released to the press,
criticized President Buhari for glorifying himself as Mr. Integrity when
he received The Urhobo Traditional Rulers, The Urhobo Progressive Union
and Urhobo members in the All Progressive Congress at the Presidential
Villa, Abuja.
According to Hon. Calista
Adimachukwu, how can president Buhari assess himself and give himself a
pass mark. It is only Nigerians that can give him a pass mark for his
integrity by voting for him in 2019. Buhari cannot be an examiner in his
own exam. As a matter of fact, how can president Buhari glorify himself
as Mr. Integrity when Dr. Junaid Mohammed has already questioned his
integrity in his interview on Guardian Newspaper of 17th February, 2018,
where be mentioned President Buhari's relations whom he gave government
appointments without considering the rest of the nation, after taking
oath of office as the president of Nigeria. The eye opening revelations
by Dr. Junaid Mohammed has never been refuted by Buhari and his cronies.
Those accusations which currently stands unchallenged have already
damaged the integrity of Nigeria's Mr. Integrity.
Judging
this from all reasonable points of view, it is more than obvious that
such act by Buhari has already put a question mark on his integrity
claims. Similarly, that one sided and biased appointments from one
section of the country is also corruption in every standard, Adimachukwu
said.
Also Adimachukwu criticized President
Buhari for claiming that those clamouring for restructuring have
personal agenda. It is worthy of note that the issue of restructuring
has been a major issue in the Nigerian polity for decades which has
attracted wide support both from the ordinary citizens, intellectuals
and politicians alike. Several constitutional conferences held in the
1990s to the last one that was held in 2014, have advanced restructuring
of the polity as a solution to the issue of junior and senior
partnership in the Nigerian project.
The
democratic government of president Goodluck Jonathan having noticed the
socio-political and economic deficiencies in the Nigerian federalism saw
the need to address the fear of ethnic domination, marginalization,
deprivations and injustice. This prompted his administration to organize
a national conference on restructuring in 2014 with participants
cutting across all the sections of Nigeria. How then can president
Buhari say that the proponents of restructuring have personal agenda.
For clarity sake, president Buhari needs to explain to Nigerians his own
understanding of how the clamour for restructuring by Nigerians have
become a personal agenda. Please what personal agenda is greater than
the agitation to have a sense of belonging in Nigeria as well as ending
the issue of junior and senior partnership in the Nigerian project.
Nigerians
cannot continue to entertain a democratic government that acts like a
military dictatorship. If president Buhari has any sense of duty and
patriotism, he would revisit the reports of the 2014 National Confab to
find a way to fast track the restructuring of Nigeria for an equitable
union government, rather than tagging the clamour for restructuring as a
personal agenda of some groups.
