"Please help us beg the Police not to kill us, we are sorry for breaking into somebody's house, we were trying to raise funds to register for the West Africa Certificate Examination (WAEC)", that was the plea of two students of Bishop Shina-Hand College, Orlu, paraded amongst other suspects by the Imo State Police command.
Emmanuel Ewudo and Nweane Chinwe both 15 years old boys made
the appeal during their parade at the Police headquarters by the State
Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadinchi.
The duo while armed had on May 13th, broken into the
residence of one Mrs Chigozie Ohajiogu in Akokwa, Ideato North local government
area of Imo State with the intent to rob her but her shouts made them flee only
to return 45 minutes later but escaped to evade arrest by the vigilant
Policemen led by their Sector Commander, Banjoko Oluwemimo.
However, they were nabbed in their school.
Emmanuel Ewudo, speaking said " yes we are students. My
father has been bedridden and in hospital and unable to pay my WAEC fees, I
begged my friend to accompany me somewhere. We went to rob the woman but we
were not successful. We were caught one day after. We are very scared, we don't
want to be killed but we know that it is wrong to break into somebody's house
", he sobbed.
A total of 45 persons were arrested; 24 for armed robbery;
12 people for kidnapping; 8 persons for cultism; one person for Child

Amongst the suspects paraded for kidnapping was one Patrick
Ogidi who specialized in kidnapping elderly persons aged 80 years old and
above, whose children were forced to pay ransom.
Patrick who hails from Obiagbu in Ohaji/Egbema local
government area of Imo State said he preferred to kidnap Octogenarians because
they are frail and won't give him any concerns over escape.
He said " when am taking them to my hideout in the bush
and they complain of tiredness, I carry them on my back. Their children who at
that point are very worried, pay over N1million to secure the release of their
frail parents", Patrick said.
Further, Galadinchi said the command rescued two students of
Hope Wadell International Secondary School Ohafia, in Abia State who were
abducted from their hostels.
He said "my men rescued Master Winner Adeagha and
Esther Ajike kidnapped from their hostels at gunpoint were kept in the boot of
a car and driven to to an uncompleted building where their legs and hands tied
with chain but operatives of Orlu Area Command rescued them. Investigations are
still ongoing to nab the suspects", the Police boss said.
