Anambra warns against indiscriminate sitting of Mortuaries, Funeral Homes



www.odogwublog.com reports that the Anambra State Government has cautioned against indiscriminate erection of mortuaries and funeral homes and other unhealthy practices of their operators in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Josephat Akabuike gave this warning in Awka when a representative of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) paid him an advocacy visit in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
Dr. Akabuike said that the state had rules guiding the operations of mortuaries and declared that those flaunting them would be appropriately sanctioned.
He said the state health reforms stipulated how such organizations should operate in order to enhance their service delivery.
Commenting on the Association's request and position on the issue, the Health Commissioner commended them for their interest and efforts, promising that government would certainly do the needful to address the situation.
The National President of ASATU, Chief Alex Onukwue observed that in most cases mortuaries were sited within the same areas where people live, which he pointed out should not be .
He said that some of them are open to public view without perimeter fencing or sufficient walls so as to shield the premises from direct public view.
