Ijele, nee Udeji of Umueze Village, Amawbia , Awka South local
government area , Anambra state has been laid to rest amidst pomp and
ceremony.
Hundreds of Reverend Fathers, and
Reverend Sisters as well as three Bishops including the Catholic Bishop
of Awka diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor , former
Bishop of Ahiara Diocese , Most Reverend Dr Peter Okpaleke, and the
Auxiliary Bishop of Awka , Most Reverend Jonas Benson Okoye as well as
Rev Fr Jude Udemezue of Catholic diocese of Nnewi to mention but a few.
Friends across Nigeria but particularly from Lagos Archdiocese came in
their large numbers to witness the event.
Late
Madam Ezinne Ezezue was a renowned member of St Anthony of Padua,
dedicated member of Legion of Mary, committed Church warden, outstanding
Chorister and active member of CWO both Mulumba’s Catholic Church New
Heaven Enugu and St Mathew’s Catholic Church, Amawbia.
Aged
92 years, Late Ezinne Ezezue who lost her husband at the age of 71 was
an epitome of humility, hospitality and love for humanity. She valued
and preached peace, characterized by truth and alms giving, bequeathing
her children exemplary legacies. She was survived by 6 children, 26
grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 sons in law and 2 daughters in
law.
In his homily at St Mathew’s Catholic
Church, Amawbia, the Auxiliary Bishop of Awka diocese, Most Reverend
Jonas Benson Okoye urged the family to continue with the legacies their
mother left behind while encouraging Christians to ensure their
lifestyles on earth while alive are worthy of emulation.
Bishop
Okoye raised an alarm that he got a life threatening sms message even
though he did not go into details of who sent it and why, said those
threatening to kill him are late because he is in the Lord and fears
nothing including death. He said Fr Vin’s life is characterized by the
legacies their mother left behind.
At the vigil
on Thursday, the former Catholic Bishop of Ahiara diocese, Most
Reverend Dr Peter Okpalaeke in similar tone eulogized the outstanding
traits Late Ezinne Ezezue exhibited that endured her to their entire
community and wherever she resides.
Bishop
Okpalaeke pointed out that God has a way of recognizing the good work of
people in His vine yard and those who are diligent as He did with Late
Ezinne Ezezue’s family. He thanked the Ezezue’s for celebrating their
mother while alive and urged others to emulate such.
Mr
Samuel Ezezue , aka Akidi Amaokeani spoke on behalf of Sir Peter Ezezue
aka Nnabuenyi at the vigil while Rev Fr Vincent Ezezue, CSSR, the
Parish Priest of Archangels’ Satelite Town Lagos spoke on behalf of
Peter too at the burial ceremony at St Mathew’s Amawbia.
Fr
Vin described the unprecedented solidarity across board at the burial
as an honour for him as a person and to his family members as their
mother is no more to see the crowd.
While
praying for Mama Ezezue’s soul to repose in peace at the grave side, the
Catholic Bishop of Awka , Most Reverend Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor
reminded Christians to be mindful of their actions and inactions as man
is dust and dust shall man return to.
Governor
Willie Obiano who eulogized mother general qualities of Late Ezinne
Ezezue was represented by his Principal Secretary, Mr Willie Nwokoye. He
added that as a mother of a priest, she was mother to priests hence a
state figure and therefore worthy of Governor’s attention at her burial.
For a family friend and Retired EEDC Feeder
Manager, High Chief Chukwukadibia Nwannebuike Aron Onwelukwue , Owelle
Ugbene the qualities of Late Ezinne Ezezue was incomparable and
outstanding hence her smiles and outreach to others remained contagious
till death, adding that a gem and mother general was lost.
On
his part, a the Parishioner of Archangels’ Satelite Town Lagos and
Managing Director of Paf Nigeria Limited, Sir Paulinus Agbaje said the
threat to Bishop Okoye was unwarranted as anyone threatening a man of
God is threatening himself or herself. He said Late Ezinne Ezezue’s
testimonies he heard since he came was excellent and encouraging.
One
of the priests who is a friend of the family, Rev Fr Jude Udemezue said
his observations of the Ezezue’s shows that they are unique and
receptive to guests no matter their societal standing, hence mama’s
demise was a home coming for so many.
Over
90 priests and Reverend Sisters attended the vigil on Thursday while
more than 180 priests attended the burial ceremonies. Barr Harry Uduh ,
HOS Anambra state was also present at the burial.
Her
children Peter, Ngozi, John , Samuel, Vincent, and Ifeyinwa took time
to eulogize their late mother even as Fr Vincent in his eulogy decried
that he never got to say good bye to his late mother.
