www.odogwublog.com reports that the Commissioner
for Trade & Investment, Abia State, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya, has
announced the donation of the proceeds of his biography book launch to
charity homes.
The
former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor who made the
announcement during the book launch yesterday in Umuahia said the
gesture was borne out of his passion for the poor.
According
to him, only the production cost of the book would be deducted from the
proceeds while the balance would be shared among the benefiting charity
homes.
He identified
the beneficiaries of the proceed as : School for the Blind Afaraukwu,
St. Vincent De Paul Abiaeke, and Motherless Babies Home Ahiaeke.
The
biography of the 65- year old politician entitled " Unveiling the
Man Charles Ogbonnaya, Evulogu Ibeku", was written by a former Vice
President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Zone C, Sir Ambrose
Nwachukwu.
Ogbonnaya
who decried the plights of the needy in society especially in the face
of the biting economic hardship, appealed to privileged ones to always
provide support for "those who cannot afford three square meals a day
for no fault of theirs".
He
said he decided to positively affect lives of the indigent with the
proceeds of the book launch which coincided with his 65th birth day as a
way of appreciating God for lifting him from obscurity and bringing him
to limelight.
In his
remarks, Chairman of the event and former Senate President, Adolph
Wabara, described the Commissioner as a selfless politician who had
dedicated greater part of his life to serve the people.
He challenged other privileged individuals in society to emulate him in advancing the cause of the poor.
Eminent personalities in the state including Senator Theodore Orji, and Hon. Sam Onuigbo were at the ceremony.
