www.odogwublog.com reports that Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state has announced
that the State Government will sponsor two Commissioners and two Special
Advisers to undertake Executive training at the Harvard Business School in
America.
He announced this at the closing ceremony of the
two-day Executive Council retreat held in Awka for members of the State
Executive Council, Managing Directors of Agencies, Senior Political appointees
and Permanent Secretaries.
Governor Obiano said this was a way of rewarding the
officials for their excellent performance in his first term, and also for
challenging and motivating other government officials and appointees to give
their best in the second term of his administration.
Those that will be attending the training are Mr Obi
Nwankwo (Commissioner for Public Utilities), Prof Kate Omenugha (Commissioner
for Basic Education), Sir Melie Onyejepu (Special Adviser on Budget Monitoring
and Implementation), and Ngozi Monica Okonkwo (Special Adviser on Efficiency,
Training and Motivation.
As well, Permanent Secretaries in various Ministries
and the Head of Service are to undertake a three week training at the Lagos
Business School.
Similarly Heads of various Government Agencies are to
go for a two week training at the same school.
Obiano reiterated that there is need for training and
re-training of workers to equip them to be at par with their counterparts
across the globe.
The Governor who maintained that the trainings which
will be in batches will also include Directors who will be trained at ASCON,
adding that it would be arranged in such a way that the beneficiaries will
train others.
Governor Obiano directed the Head of Service to ensure
effective supervision of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies to
eliminate what he described as culture of impunity being exhibited by civil
servants as he will start unannounced visits to various offices adding that
whoever that is not in the office before eight o'clock in the morning, will be
shown the way out.
He frowned at those who are in the habit of engaging
in private businesses when they were supposed to be in office and expressed
dismay over the dress code of some civil servants especially the women.
Others who spoke at the event including the Head of
Service, Mr Harry Uduh, Commissioner designate for Local Arts, Culture and
Tourism, Sally Mbanefo, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo
Chukwulobelu, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra
Broadcasting Service Mr Uche Nworah suggested ways of affecting positive change
in various Ministries for efficiency.
