reports that two armed men with unknown mission attacked a female aide to the Lord Bishop of Awka Anglican diocese, Right Reverend Alexander
Chibuzor Ibezim.
She was shot twice on the neck and
fled without taking her phones and money she was carrying. She was left in the
pool of his blood.
The incident happened at Okpuno about 8: 10 pm Friday night as she walks to
her father’s compound.

gathered that before the incident she had answered a call from her brother
worried that she is yet to be back from work and she said she is three poles
from their gate and after few minutes gun shots were heard near their gate.
As people scampered for safety, her
brother became worried and mustered courage to as she was no longer picking her
calls despite that it was ringing. He came to their gate and saw his sister’s
lifeless body. He raised alarm and people assisted him to rush her to a private
hospital in Okpuno (names withheld by us).
At the hospital , they swung to
action to save her life even while some medical officials there were
pessimistic , she would survive the attack but after the seizure of blood
flow and first aide , she opened her eyes, shouted ‘’Thank you Jesus
for saving my life’’ and relapsed into coma. Though she has now regained
consciousness.
Bishop Ibezim was shocked and could
not explain what his aide had done to anyone but thanked God
for showing that he is still God by saving her.
She had left her work place as about
5 pm and went to the Bishop’s court , Emmaus House
Awka to brief the Bishop before she left about 7 pm jumping public transport
and trekking.
She is a diligent worker is a
no nonsense and uncompromising staff who is seen as the Bishop’s
strongest alley sequel to her spiritual life that is high and worthy of
emulation in the diocese. She has never been seen shouting or bullying people
as some of people in such privileged position often do. She has no air at all
around her and despite serving Bishop of Awka in sensitive issues had no
official car of hers or private car.
It would be recalled that Bishop's
wife, Mrs Chioma Ibezim had been attacked at Nimo and her brand new car
stolen under gun point after she was ordered to lay on hot tarred road with
face down. Till date the car has not been recovered and Mama Awka as she is
fondly called still traumatized. This happened shortly after the husband was
consecrated.
Thieves had attacked the Bishop’s
office some time ago and made away allegedly with several millions of naira the
workers were unable to remit the previous day.
