Okorocha congratulates Oyegun, says Araraume will not govern Imo

www.odogwublog.com reports that following the one year extension given to Chief John Oyegun and other members of the national working committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has congratulated them, saying it is a challenge to work harder.

This is even as he debunked claims trending on social media that he sought to stop the extension, saying it was falsehood perpetrated by some politicians.

Okorocha made the disclosure in two separate statements issued by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Sam Onwuemodo in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Okorocha congratulated states, Local Governments and wards executives of the party who were returned alongside Chief Oyegun, saying it is a challenge for them to ensure the victory and progress of the party at all levels.

According to the Governor, the extension granted the NWC would not have been possible without President Muhammadu Buhari, the state governors and key stakeholders of the party who were present at the NEC meeting.

He wished them a successful tenure and prayed that the God will grant them everything they need to succeed.

Speaking on the allegations trending, Okorocha said "it was unfortunate that some them have always thrown caution to the wind by thinking that the only way they can make impact or make a headway in their Politics and Political pursuits is by embarking on falsehood and sponsoring cheap blackmail against Governor Rochas Okorocha".

According to him, as a Governor and the strongest pillar of APC in the South-East and one of the pillars in the country, "he has remained supportive in all ramifications to the John Oyegun-led National Exco of the Party. And there is no reason anybody should begin to create the impression that Governor Okorocha was against the extension of Chief Oyegun’s tenure".

Specifically, he stated that front line Imo politician, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume cannot win APC guber ticket nor emerge the Governor of the State.

He stated thus "I want to say this for the sake of emphasis. Senator Ifeanyi Araraume cannot win the ticket of APC for the 2019 guber in the State and can never govern the State. So people should not allow themselves to be deceived".

Further he said, " in 2007, he won the ticket of PDP and failed the main election. In 2011, he also had the ticket of ACN and came fourth in the election. In 2015, he also failed the PDP Primary. So, what magic would he perform in 2019?"

He challenged Araraume that if he considered himself a force, then he should replicate what he did in 2011 by taking the party ticket and going ahead to win a sitting Governor, despite federal might saying "let Senator Araraume pick the ticket of any of the parties, contest and win and we will Celebrate him. He should not be always working to undo sitting governors to become governor".

He opined that the era of name dropping has become old fashioned in Politics, saying "powerful politicians in the real sense of the word do not drop names".
