www.odogwublog.com reports that Proponent of the Youths Earnestly Ask for Sani Abacha (YEAA), Nnamdi Kanu has accused Imo State Government of halting the creation of the biggest gym in the State and is demanding for compensation of it N630million.
Kanu
said the agreement of the property lease of Heroes Square by Concord
avenue Owerri was for 35 years, but was revoked less than three years.
According
to him, while serving as a Special Adviser to Governor Okorocha in
2011, he alongside his colleagues were implored to use their contacts to
attract business and investment opportunities for the State, adding
that he was one of those who heeded the call.
He
explained that he brought Quest Resources Consult Limited to set up a
world class gym and fitness centre sited at Heroes Square, adding that
by the agreement, the lease commenced on August 22, 2012 to end in 2047.
He disclosed that Quest Resources paid a concession
fee of twenty million Naira (N20,000,000) to the State Government,
while the annual rent was one million Naira (1,000,000).
He
disclosed that they moved into site and begun construction as well as
importation of facilities for the centre that was to house a gym;
offices; restaurant; bar; pool; sports courts; parking lot amongst
others; but regretted that the project has been put on hold.
Kanu
said while they moved into site, they were unaware that the portion
belongs to Chief Tony Chukwu, who has gone to court to the perceived
encroachment.
Further,
he said they woke up one day and discovered Governor Okorocha had
singlehandedly revoked the agreement of lease, saying they had sunk in
hundreds of Naira in construction and importation of equipments.
Kanu
is demanding for the payment of six hundred and thirty million Naira
(630,000,000) which he said is the accumulation of daily lease of the
square at N350,000 to the Government daily.
Kanu,
a Governor hopeful said it was wrong for the Governor to revoke the
agreement without the consent of both parties adding that they have
committed huge sums into the project.
