www.odogwublog.com reports that Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) in collaboration with the Polar-Afrique consulting limited, Abuja, weekend, trained over one hundred (100) women and youths from Ogbaru Local Government area of Anambra state on various business opportunities that abound in their immediate environment as well as secrets on how to set up a small scale business and resource management.
The training which was facilitated
by the member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency at the National
Assembly, Hon. Chukwuka Onyema was aimed at taking the youths off the street by
providing to them, a take-off grant that will enable them start off their
choice businesses after the skills acquisition.
While addressing the participants, a
senior Research fellow of the institute, Mr. Paul Andrew Gwaza noted that the unemployed
and under employed youths in Nigeria have always been a tool for execution of
violence in the society, hence the need to engage them meaningfully at various
levels.
Gwaza, however identified injustice,
denial and poverty as major sources of conflict and violence in Nigeria but
disclosed to the participants that identifying business ideas and opportunities
is a step towards overcoming poverty and hunger, adding that the exposure was
for the youths to make options in Agriculture and other areas.
On his part, the Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of Polar-Afrique limited, Dr. Chris Osiomha Itsede,
represented by Mr., Emmanuel Fagbamila explained that the duty of IPCR and
Polar-Afrique is on the capacity and peace building of the participants while
the federal lawmaker, Hon. Onyema will provide the empowerment for the youths,
which he said, will make them become bosses of their own without relying on the
government.
The lawmaker, Hon Onyema disclosed
that the participants drawn from the 16 wards of the council area will be
empowered with over N10 million worth of cash and materials as take-off grant
and enjoined them to make judicious use of the money, adding that his intension
was to give back to the society.
The Federal lawmaker represented by
his Campaign Director, Mr. Okoli Okwudili said his principal has empowered over
500 youths since elected which he said is to buttress his commitment in
building human infrastructure and providing quality representation as enshrined
in his campaign promises.
