ICAN Extols Obiano On Accountability, Financial Prudence

 The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, has lauded the Obiano administration for maintaining very high standards of accountability and financial prudence in its processes.

The 53rd President of the Institute, Alhaji Ismaila Zakari gave the commendation when he led a delegation from the National Body of the Institute on a courtesy visit to Governor Willie Obiano at the Governor's Lodge, Amawbia.

Alhaji Zakari noted that Governor Obiano's impressive performance in his first term in the areas of security, agriculture, education, infrastructural development, prompt payment of salaries and pensions, elimination of corruption in government processes which has guaranteed his overwhelming victory at the November 2017 governorship polls, distinguishes him as a fellow of the Institute.

He explained that the visit was in keeping with the strategic objective of the Institute to seek collaboration with progressive governments and groups towards promoting accountability and effective public finance management, and assured that the institute is poised to deepening their cooperation with Anambra State Government.

Responding, Governor Obiano thanked the Institute for its keen observations which he noted, shows that they keep tab with his administration's policies and programmes.

He lauded the significant efforts of the present leadership of the Institute towards advancing the accounting profession and assured that his administration will continue to support them as its resources permit.

The Governor made it clear that he remains committed to administering the affairs of the state in a manner that will engender greater socio-economic benefits for her people, in keeping with best standards in accounting principles.

On his part, a past President of the Institute, Mr Chidi Ajegbu consented that Governor Obiano has been a good ambassador of the Institute, soliciting his support towards some initiatives of the Institute's national body.

Exchange of souvenirs between the Governor and his guests formed the highpoint of the event.
